About

The Cambridge and District Humane Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and providing shelter and comfort to the needy animals of the Cambridge and District community in Ontario, Canada. The Society is totally supported by the generosity of the community it serves. The Society depends on volunteers to assist in fulfilling its mandate.

The Cambridge and District Humane Society cares for homeless animals in need of temporary shelter. It looks for suitable new homes and provides education to the community on how to care for the newly adopted pet. The Society also acts as a temporary shelter for lost animals while awaiting return to their rightful owners. As well, the Cambridge and District Humane Society responds to and investigates allegations of cruelty to and neglect of animals.

Become a Member
One of the ways The Cambridge and District Humane Society supports itself is through membership. Annual membership fees are $40.00. Members receive special discounts at local businesses, a CDHS car magnet, the Society's Newsletters and are invited to attend Society meetings as well as vote on major decisions made during the meetings.  Presently, the Cambridge and District Humane Society has about 100 members, which, considering that Cambridge has approximately 102,000 residents, is extremely low. We invite any one interested in becoming a member to contact us.

About This Website

The Cambridge & District Humane Society website and its sub-sites and pages were initiated, as a public service, by Mason & Yvonne Galganov of Brantford, Ontario, Canada. Site design and maintenance is done by Web Site Design by Galganov, a Galganov & Associates company.

Ongoing hosting services as well as support and maintenance continue to be provided on a no-fee basis by Galganov & Associates.

History: The Cambridge & District Humane Society's first website was established in 1997 in the Galganovs' personal web space.  About one year later, Galganov & Associates built galganov.net which inclued cambridge.galganov.net and  spca.cambridge.galganov.net. It was during the course of this move that the Humane Society's website was redesigned for the first time.

A short four months later CambridgeWeb.net was established and, with it, spca.CambridgeWeb.net which now serves, on average, over 1,000 visitors every day including some who return to view more pets for adoption and to read stories of adopted pets. Visitors come primarily from Canada but this site enjoys visitors in smaller numbers from over 40 countries around the world.

To celebrate this 10th anniversary @ spca.CambridgeWeb.net and the wonderful success this site has experienced we have launched this newly redesigned website on the 25th of February, 2008.

Enhanced features facilitate users in emailing adoptable pets suggestions to friends or family who they think may be interested in adopting. This feature uses the user's Outlook (or other default) mail program to send these suggestions. You may still send general website referrals through our referral page (users are tracked to prevent abuse).

Easy viewing of adoptable and adopted pets is part of the enhancements. Additionally, timely delivery of information is made possible by Humane Society staff maintaining relevant areas of this website.

We hope you enjoy the experience!
